WATS3D Biopsy – A More Complete Biopsy
The WATS3D Biopsy is an adjunct to standard forceps biopsy of the esophagus which increases the tissue area sampled and therefore, increases the yield of patients identified with abnormality in the esophagus. The WATS3D biopsy device is passed through the operating channel of a standard endoscope. WATS3D is specifically designed to consistently sample deeper layers of the more firmly attached glandular epithelium found in Barrett’s esophagus.
WATS3D specimens are analyzed at CDx Diagnostics, where they are stained and examined by an advanced computer image three dimensional analysis system that was specifically designed to detect abnormalities including dysplasia and carcinoma. This is accomplished through detection of a combination of abnormal cellular morphology and molecular diagnostics. A pathologist with expertise in WATS biopsy analysis renders the final result following both computer-assisted and manual microscopic examination of the slide.

The proprietary WATS3D instrument is designed to get a complete tissue biopsy down to the lamina propria. It’s linear design allows the endoscopist to sample more tissue, as well as a circumferential sample to be collected if necessary.
